Extension of the suspension of non-essential activities in Mexico
Last March 31, the Department of Health published a Resolution in the Federal Official Gazette establishing extraordinary actions to address the COVID 19 health emergency. Yesterday, an amendment to such resolution was published.
The most relevant amendment consists in the extension of the suspension of non-essential activities until May 30, 2020. However, in municipalities where there is low or null transmission of the SARS-CoV2 (COVID-19) virus, the suspension will no longer be in effect on May 18. The amendment is consistent with the announcements made by the Federal Government in the past days.
On the other hand, the Resolution sets forth that the Governments of the States of the Mexican Republic shall have the following responsibilities, among others:
Implementing prevention and control measures according to the criteria defined by the Department of Health.
Establishing and executing mechanisms to reduce the mobility of inhabitants among municipalities with different propagation degrees.
Guaranteeing, within the scope of their respective jurisdictions, the effective and prompt implementation of these measures; and
Together with the members of the National Health Services who provide their services in each State, executing and supervising plans for hospital reconversion and expansion to guarantee proper and prompt health care of the population.
Foreseeable, the extension of the suspension of non-essential activities will also force the suspension of certain government activities, and the extension of periods. It is expected that in the next few days official resolutions will be published in this regard.
