New IMSS Mailbox
On July 9th, an Agreement was published whereby the Social Security Mexican Institute (IMSS) disclosed the General Guidelines to use the IMSS Mailbox. These guidelines became effective on August 3.
By means of the IMSS Mailbox, employers may submit requests, applications, notices, comply with their obligations, and consult their fiscal and administrative situation with the institute. The IMSS Mailbox is a tool seeking to reduce the administrative burden of the corporations, and facilitate compliance with social security obligations.
These guidelines are summarized as follows:
Individuals may choose to file with the IMSS actions enabled in the IMSS Mailbox, as an electronic communication means, by using the advanced electronic signature. For this purpose, individuals must have a valid digital certificate issued by the SAT and public and private keys that constitute the e-signature.
All electronic actions conducted through the IMSS Mailbox must be signed with an e-signature supported by a valid certificate, and they will fall under the holder´s responsibility. It is essential to duly safeguard the digital certificate and maintain the private key confidential.
Not all the processes can be conducted through the IMSS Mailbox. This will depend on the IMSS enabling the pertinent sections.
It should be remembered that the use of the mailbox is optional, not mandatory. However, its use may become a good mechanism to save resources in meeting social security obligations.
